Anyone here read the "Dirty Diaper Laundry" blog? With more than 1,200 followers, some of you are bound to be reading along with me! About a month ago, this blogger challenged the cloth diapering world to the Flats Challenge! You can check out the entire post here: http://dirtydiaperlaundry.com/take-the-flats-and-handwashing-challenge-may-23-30/
Basically the way it works is from May 23 through May 30, you are challenged to use only flats and up to 5 covers for your baby for the entire week. You have to hand-wash them, no sprayer, no washing machine, no dryer. Hang them outside, hang them inside, but no power can be used.
Why? Here's just one quote from the above post: "There are many variables that make it hard for low income families to use cloth diapers. No washer and dryer access, no money to buy enough diapers to last until going to the laundromat, no way to transport a very heavy bag of dirty diapers to the laundromat, no education about washing them, and so on."
That post is a real eye opener; I suggest everyone take the time to read it. And hey, maybe some of our readers will be willing and able to participate in the challenge as well. If you're interested in participating, you can check out the videos and other resources listed at the bottom of the "Flats Challenge" post to help get you started. There's even one on there for creating your own camp-style washer to aid in the hand washing of your flats and covers.
Have a great Monday everyone! We'll see you tomorrow!
